Friday 10th Finns Beach

The bird life here is really good. We were very fortunate to see a Spotted Quoll today. Tasmania’s wild cat. We drove to Geeveston and decided to stay as its so beautiful, need to explore this area.

Finns Beach  Finns Beach  Filthy toilet rubbish on the edge of the beach, we have seen a lot of this sort of thing, absolutely filthy.  Went for a walk and came across this beautiful garden in the middle of nowhere.  This is our camp spot at Finns beach, clean drop toilets, ocean on the right, forest on our left. Magic spot.  Two wee Baby Wrens, I watched them for ages, mum was coming and feeding them.  Dad sitting watching me I think, so moved away, let them be.  So cold and damp here most of the time, moss on everything. Can you feel the heat, was a good fire.

Thursday 9th Finns Beach

Rained most of the early hours but warm. Went for a walk to the beach, ocean very calm, winds also eased. Sun did finally shine through even if not for long. We have a few other campers here all lovely people.

Fire started from a camp fire.  These people love their fishing.  Finns beach. All very peaceful.

Wednesday 8th Cockle Creek

Lovely spot, Cockle Creek is the most southerly road in Australia, Tasmania. Lots of bays, creeks, and little shacks which are very nice I might add. The bush comes down to the ocean. Here are a few images.

Rose Adams shack whom she lived with her husband, quiet a history on her.  Another shack by Rose’s house.   The Whale.  Cockle Creek bay.

Monday 6th Feb. Travelling to Cockle Creek.

Was a wet night so let the canvas dry before leaving and 3 Kookaburras were sitting laughing. Travelled to Oatlands and camped the night. Nice sunset, very cool and foggy later in the evening.

This has been our camped site for 5 nights at Dora Point.  Coloured sand stones.  Oatlands Windmill, still working for flour milling, this is where I buy my Spelt Flour and rolled oats.  Nice big freedom camping area here.

Dora Point Day 5

Odd shower of rain.Headed into St Helen’s and had Fish & Chips at the Skippers which was an old working boat now converted to Takeaway restaurant, really great food. Was eating my tea this evening early and noticed a movement and looked down, there was a Black snake about 12 inches from my foot, so I reached out to get my camera but it retreated back, so I banged my foot on the ground and it went under the camper, but later on I went around to the back of the camper and here it is again looking at me, so banged my foot lots and it went back into the bushes. No photo.

Floating Takeaway’s.  Georges Bay, St Helen’s  Rains are coming.  Yellow Throat Honey eaters.  Beautiful Sunset with stormy skies.
