Day 26

Thursday 9th.

What a day,  awesome. Did lots of shooting birds,  did the boat trip, that was fantastic learning all the history of the gorge and the Waanyi people.

Heading up the Gorge.

IMG_0919

Cliff face, going up the Gorge, some light it looks red, other times its orange, keep’s changing colours. Just beautiful.

IMG_0955

Canoeing, they all having fun, Indarri Falls just around the corner.

IMG_0957

Trees growing out of rocks, amazing.

IMG_0968

Part of the falls, quite a story as to how long the falls have eroded the rock away, it passes through lime stone and deposits calcium to form where the falls fall.

IMG_0971

Another fall as part of the Indarri falls.

IMG_0980

A Bower bird landed on the calcium ledge.

IMG_0985

Indarri Falls in all its glory, they are so beautiful..

IMG_1020

Shapes, colour, just breath taking.

IMG_1062

The skipper was telling us about the crack in this cliff face, when there’s been a lot of rain the water gushes out from this crack and forms a water fall that flows right out into the water. So where we are now he said, we’d be getting wet.

Day 25

Wednesday 8th June

Had a great day. Had a good breakfast and then headed off on a hike to Indarri Falls, 3 hours round trip up over the plateau and down the cliff face,  dam steep. The colours out here are just so vivid. The falls are beautiful. The terrain is very undulating,  rocky and colourful. Alice and Jack went up to the falls in their kayak, went to the second level, we saw them at the falls. Got back at 12.30 pm.  Had to cool down, then went for a cold shower. Had lunch and just sat around for awhile,  it was 35 deg today again. Flies are bad. Wearing the fly net most days. Don and Jack went walking up over the Constance Range,  Don said it’s beautiful but extremely tough. I’m not doing it.  Couldn’t get on the boat trip today but have booked for tomorrow 10 am. Looking forward to that. Not cold at nights. Lovely and fresh.

Day 24

Tuesday 7th    Traveling to Lawn Hill

We got away from Gregory river by 9 am, sad to be leaving but will be calling back on our way south. Wonderful drive to Adels Grove where we had morning tea. Then another 10 km to Lawn Hill NP. The scenery is so beautiful and changes so often I have taken shots along the way from the vehicle as we are driving. Very hot, 35 deg. Lots of birds. I’m going on the boat cruise as there is no way I can row 6 km. I will then walk to the falls in the afternoon. Had a cold shower to cool off then got tea. We are here for 2 full days then leave Friday 10th. We have full telstra coverage 4G with blue tick.

IMG_0770

The road to Lawn Hill, some of the tar sealed roads were worse than gravel roads.

IMG_0783

This is the road to Adels Grove. It is a Caravan Park. Been very wet here two weeks ago so we have timed it nicely, lovely and green really.

IMG_0790

Still not much water for the animals, but better than none.

IMG_0826

We are here, yahoo, only 4 km now to the camping area.

Day 23

Monday 6th. June

Well woke to a lovely morning,  heaps of people moving out and one new one came In and its only 9.02 am.  We have the Northern kookaburra,  they are so funny the sounds they make.  We walked up into the town which is 1 pub, 1 shop general Store but only necessary groceries really and petrol, all very exe. The bird life here is magic,  so many different types. Not cold tonight.  I got the washing dry,  had showers. Off to Lawn Hill tomorrow.  Met some lovely travelers.

Day 18

Wednesday 1st June  Day 18

Well it is raining,  started quiet early after we went to sleep last night. Has rained fairly constant. The land needs this,  as campers it’s fine overnight but nice to fine up now,  well not a lot to do in the rain.  Soaking the clothes to hang out when fine. Had a early tea, cleaned up and retired to the camper.

IMG_0436

Just down the bank from our camp site, looking south. very overcast.

Day 15

Sunday 29th
Got up for sunrise but was a bit of a sizzler. Made a cuppa and waited for the sun to appear. Got breakfast before the flies come. Still very windy and in the shade quiet cool. Sun is hot but having the wind helps . Caught up with Robert T,  met him at Lara,  now at Long Water Hole Winton. Had a good chat with him.  We all did star trails, milky way.  Photographed birds, cows and packed up what we could.

Day 5 & 6

Saturday 16th
Still raining. We have apostle birds visiting,  they are so funny.  Well it’s been a very wet day and we are going to leave tomorrow now. We have collected enough water off the tarp to fill all the containers and the camper. The farmers are going to be so happy with this rain as it’s been very soaking. We are having left overs for tea tonight so be easy. It’s very windy and blowing the rain in to where I cook. Once tea was cooked we all retreated into the camper lounge room. We have had the generator on to top up everything. The freezer is doing so much better even without the sunlight, so the heavy wiring Don did I feel has made a big difference. Rained all night, I just hope its fine in the morning to dry out a bit before packing up. No photo’s for today.
Sunday 17th
Well, we awoke to the most beautiful day, clear skies, sunny and a light breeze,  we will get everything dried before packing. We were on the road by 9.50 am. Had a great run thru to Monto, real lovely country side. We fueled up, $1.61 a litre. Dumped the toilet waste and got some grociers. Had morning tea then headed off up thru Many Peaks and then Mungungo, beautiful drive up over the range and then down thru the Boyne Valley, this is in the Gladstone region. We arrived here at the Boynedale Bush Camp at 3 pm, just good time for afternoon tea. The Dam here is feed by the Boyne River then flows out to Gladstone. We were all in bed early as it got very cold. We have coverage up by the toilet block sometimes. Did some star trails at 7 pm beautiful.

Day 16

22nd April Tuesday to 23rd Wednesday

Packing up today and going to stay in Miles as we need to do a big wash. The fire was still going this morning so had my cuppa by it, so nice. Caravan Park pretty run down but clean enough, more to the point the washing machines were not to exe, so I got 3 loads washed and dried, hot showers and went to pub for tea. Was a very noisy night as we are right on the Hwy trucks all night, never mind catch up tonight.

24th April Thursday

Up at 4.30 am made a cuppa and watched the sky change, all the miners heading off to work or coming home, so much mining and gas mining  going on, unbelievable. Heading to Chinchilla to get Dons tablets, but we couldn’t get them so they ordered into Dalby so when we go there on Saturday they will have them for him. Off we go to Archer’s Crossing, get there and Chris & Kate are there, they decided to drag the holiday out a few more days. Stayed a couple of days here, lovely lot of water in the river, very green, some sort of algae in it so we did not put the rubber ducky in. Went for a big walk, did some night shooting and sat around the fire with Kate & Chris, bed by 8 pm.

Day 11

17th April Thursday thru to 20th Sunday

Went over early and had a hot shower before everyone else got up. Got brekky and sat under the tree. Storm had gone, mozzies were back, and these are big ones, holly hell they can bite. Bite you thru your clothes; I have big welts on me. We headed to Moura, stopped along the way and saw the mine. We fueled up, emptied toilet, and topped up with some food items at Food Works. Going to Chain Lagoons, on our way we called into Theodore, what a lovely town only small on the Dawson River and a free camping spot. We are now on the Leichhardt H’wy heading south, had a lunch stop here and then got to Chain Lagoons and they had a fence across the road to get to the big lagoon, so we took a bush road thinking we could get thru, ha we got in a tricky spot, but with a bit of work we got back out onto the H’wy. So off we go to plan B and onto Lake Murphy, well what a neat surprise, so green, lovely camp spots so much better, no water in the lake but that’s not a problem, we loved it here and stayed 3 nights, did lots of walks, night shooting, sitting around the camp fire, was lovely, we had Apostle birds hanging around camp, they are so funny, chattering all the time. Our friends are here as well. We spent the next few days just exploring and enjoying the time to relax.

Day 22

Saturday 22nd February
Slept well, muggy though and overcast. It’s only 7.30 am, hope we get some rain. We all packed up after breaky and headed for Bingara, Sandy was ready earlier than us so we just met up with her at Bingara. Got a few supplies and had lunch in the Roxy Cafe, it was the old Roxy Theatre, they have restored it to it’s original condition. Arrived at Bonshaw Weir at 3.30 pm, was sad to see the toilet block has gone, I was told that they had big floods last year. Got set up and while Don was putting the annex up I was steadying one of the poles and the side pool dropped and hit me across the wrist, wow, it was instant golf ball size and very sore, so iced it every 20 min intervals. Was a bit sore during the night so wasn’t the greatest of sleeps. lovely and cool and windy, such a nice change. We are camping with some stock-man and there cattle while they feed along the long paddocks. They have no feed back at their farm, they have traveled from Goondawindi and heading for Ashford. Did some star trails, sky to dark.
