Tuesday 21st April

Well its been a couple of days getting things sorted to head off to West Coast, staying at Dons Son’s place. On our way over to the west coast via Lake St Clair on the Lyell Highway. Spent a bit of time there. Then on over to Strahan, via Queenstown.

Pumphouse point, has the old Pumphouse made into Accommodation on Lake St Clair. It is Tasmania’s newest wilderness retreat. Taken from the road in. They have beautiful bush tracks to wander through. This is one of the bays off the lake, it truely is a peaceful place. Heading to the right. Some of the lovely hills on the trip. Had to take this, it is from the car as you can see, this is the first glimpse we got of Queenstown, totally a mess from the mining in the early days. We were told many stories, but all I know is I couldn’t believe my eyes. Looking down onto the town amongst the ruins of the mining.

Saturday 18th April

Woke to a lovely sunny day, I was up early and went for a bush walk with in the grounds and came across heaps of signs, one I have posted, the rest were telling about the Bandicoot, wallaby, Echidnas, etc, was very interesting. After breakfast went to check out the beach, the kids have gone into some markets that they wanted to check out, both being chef’s and cooks that is great for them. The airport is right by the sea, watching a plane come into land as if it is going to hit the tree tops is quiet interesting.

Friday 17th April

We drove from Bruny Island yesterday to Seven Mile Beach Hobart, staying in Wyndham Resort for 3 nights, some luxury will be gratefully received. Got in late, and saw that we have kangaroo paw flowers I love them, these haven’t opened yet..

Thursday 16th April. Last day on Bruny Island

Well we have had just the best time here, our last day was spent driving to the south of Bruny and through the Neck, calling into different bays, having a stop off at the local Cheese place. The kids got oysters fresh from the rocks at Barnes Bay, they were everywhere and big. When we stopped at Dennes Point at the Jetty, a chap told us that as the crow flies this is the closest land to the main Tasmania land but the channel is very bad, that’s why the main crossing is way down further. Took a scenic drive back around on dirt roads get to see real nice scenery. Never now what you come across.

Couple of birds I don’t know their names yet. Blowhole over Basalt Rocks. Bruny Island Art Adventure. Small settlement. Heaps of these Tasmanian Native hens. this one is out the side of the house we’re in. Wallbies in ur yard, I was sitting on the step, they weren’t worried. The Albino again. Took from the car as you can see. Barnes Bay. This is the closest point to mainland Tasmania. Long dirt road, must be lots of homes up there. Boarding the ferry to go over to Kettering. Autumn colours from the car. Driving through a big town on our way to Seven Mile beach.

Wednesday 15th April 3rd day on Bruny Island

We got sorted nice and early this morning as we are going to the Cape Lighthouse. Weather was good, windy and bit chilly but had a great time, Coast line here is so rough and beautiful. Saw a Albino Wallaby, there are quiet a few here on the island, the drive back to van park was interesting scenery, the island is bigger than I thought. We have been staying at the van park but a mistake in our booking gave us a very flash house for a night so we moved base.

Seen better days Here at a lookout pulled in this beautiful car. HMAS Canberra ship anchoring in the bay for the night. One of the many wee walking tracks, just nice. View from the cape Bruny light station Cape Bruny Lighthouse, the kids walking up in the bushes on the path. This had 1836 A.D. on the front, it is not working now and cant be used by the public to look inside, shes getting old. View from the light house. Incredible coast line, all the Basalt rock formations. Albino Wallaby, no Kangaroos on Bruny.

Tuesday 14th April

Had a good nights sleep and were up early to go on a boat trip on the Bruny Island Adventure cruise. To many photos to show all of them but picked out what I hope will interest people. Was a fantastic day.

Got up early and went down the beach, caught the early light on the foot way and seating, very beautiful for a walk down the beach. This is the beach outside our van park. Everyone waiting to board the cruise boat. Father and Son The arch way, we didn’t go through it. Looking at the kelp growing on the rocks. The other boat, which is the same one as we are on. kelp gardens. Rock pillars and formations. Facing into the sun but took it any ways, we had just come through and then watched the other boat coming through. Blow hole. Seals in sun and playing in the kelp. Got back and what a wonderful sunset to finish the day off.

Monday 13th April

Well the four of us are heading off to catch the ferry to Bruny Island for four nights, Dons son and his partner are there as well, we have met up from different directions for this trip. This is our 1st day, we are based at Adventure bay in a van park in a onsite van we are sharing. These photos are pretty much self explanatory, just beach scenes and rocks with amazing colours.

Stopped for a picnic, so cold we were sitting with Katie’s blankets around us so much fun.

Friday 10th April.

We had stayed at the caravan park in Penguin and were on our way back to Launceston, I was not doing to good so only spent a wee bit of time taking some images of the Old Mill house from 1868, the reflections were just lovely. Very picturesque town with all the Autumn colours. This town is on the Meander River, very central to lots of interesting places, we will be back.

Tuesday 7th April

Haven’t done a lot over the last few days but went for a beach drive from Rocky Cape camping spot, out to the National Park, Boat Harbour Beach and to Sisters Beach, then went back to Port Latta to get permission to cut through someones yard to get down to some rocks we wanted to photograph. The winds were very cold today and wasn’t doing me a lot of good, so not to many pics today.

Boat Harbour Beach, very pretty place, the sand was so fine and white. Freedom Camping here as well. Looking back to the settlement. No photo’s of Sisters Beach called into this shop but no where for camping if you have anything bigger than a small campervan, nice wee place though. This area is amazing with a lot of history. This piece of land called Table Cape is an actual plug from a volcano. Light House at Table Cape. View from the Light House grounds. Looking towards the Tulip Farm, they have all been picked, Ive been told it is a picture to be seen when the tulips are in bloom. On our way back saw this art work on a rock face, don’t know what it means as there was no plaque. Someone having a bit of fun with Maggie on the lamp post. Another daggy letterbox. Back at Port Latta, the rock formations are just amazing, photo’s don’t really show it, Straight off the camera, the colours are incredible. This lot looked like concrete had been just dumped.

Saturday 4th April

Not a lot happened today, we packed up as much as we could and what had dried out from the rain overnight. Took some photos of the moon and did some star trails even with a small amount of cloud to see how it would turn out, wont bother again. 🙂
