Had a lovely drive from Hamilton to Gordon Dam. Called into Teds beach 1st and set up camp, no one here. Great toilet blocks and rest area, inside a huge building they have BBQ’s and plenty of seating with huge window to look out over the water. Great shelter in bad weather and ski season. Had lunch and set off to look around, calling into Serpentine Dam, and onto Gordon Dam, did the 250 very steep steps to the top of the dam wall, walked across and then climbed back up. Lots of history on the making of this magnificent dam. Got back to Teds beach and there were campers every where. Did tea, cleaned up and its very cold, hoping for clear skies for night shooting. Had a great surprise when I went night star shooting. See image below.

Thursday 2nd March Day 76

Lovely warm night. Did a wash and drying, showered etc. Lovely quaint town with history. Did the Platypus walk here are some of the fruits that we enjoyed for the day.

 Rosehip berries.  Black berries,  Plums, they were so sweet. I found these fences lined with their firewood stash very interesting.

Tuesday 28th February to Wednesday 1st March.

On Tuesday, had a good clean out of the camper, also chattered with our new neighbours, great people. On the Wednesday we are heading off to Hamilton on the Lyell Highway, looking at points of interest along the way. Weather beautiful, in shorts again 🙂

 Very cool and lots of due this morning.  Another causeway on lake Arthur.  country scenery.  Nant Distillery. Whiskey makers.  Coming down into Hamilton.

Sunday 26th Febraury

Early start to the day, long drive, heading up to the Great Lakes District. Stocked up with tinned and groceries at Deloraine, Cheese and milk at Ashgroves, Raspberries at Christmas Hills and off we go. 🙂 Not a lot of photos due to no visibility most of the trip.

 A lookout on the great lakes road. Bluff forest tiers. Weather very overcast, low cloud cover.  Lake Arthur.  Country cottage, seen better days, up a side road. Ended up at Cowpaddock, awesome spot.

Saturday 25th Febraury

Another month nearly over, we have done so much so far. Its cool but not windy, bit of rain during the night. Went for a drive and checked out all the beaches. Snakes are out in the mornings sunning themselves so we’re very weary as we’ve already seen 3 on this trip.

 Dragonfly sunning.  Copperhead sunning on the track.  Nawantapu wetlands  Patterns of grasses washed up  Sand patterns.

Friday 24th February Day 70

Hit the road at 11 am and it is 18 deg, just lovely. Went and checked out Bells Bay, its more like a port really for the coal. We carried onto Beaconsfield and had lunch. From here we headed for Nawantapu NP and the hema took us the shortest route but took twice as long but the scenery was awesome. Camped at Bakers Beach.

 Very big campsites.  Wombats here are suffering with a mange that is killing them, you can see the lack of fur on the rump.  Sunset

Thursday 23rd February

I heard the Penguins last night. 🙂 After breakfast we went out to the Low Head Light house, did all the sites along the way. Found Penguin tracks. Did the tourist stuff in George Town, very lovely area. Great day, got back pretty late.

 Low Head Light house  Lagoon Bay  Maritime Museum  In NZ I’d call this a Huhu Beetle but here in Australia I dont know its name.  Leads Lighthouse  Leads Lighthouse  More Carvings by Eddie Freeman, same person that did the ones at East Beach Tourist Park.  Tamar River, very windy in the exposed areas.   Water Tower, in between Low Head and George Town.

Wednesday 22nd February Heading to George Town

Well we got away by 9 am, and its 21 deg, lovely. Had a great drive through and decided not to call into Bridport as we’d done it last time. Got to George Town and went to information centre as we do when its a new area for us. George Town and Low Head are on the east side of the Tamar near the mouth of the river. With info in hand, had a look around and ended up booking into the East beach Tourist Park, we dont do van parks but I have to say this is nice and clean, basic and lovely couple own it. Good price for power as well. We are staying two nights.

 Our camp site, plenty of room.   Low Head light house.  Beach just out from Van park.  Incredible art works.  I wanted to add these plaques so get the information correct. Van Park.
