Halls Point Day 3

Heard the Penguins today so going out to the area tonight. Lots of Penguin tracks this morning on the beach. Good sign. Did another walk to shops, its 3 km so my daily exercise.

View looking west from our camping spot.  Mutation European Finch.  Silver eye.  Looking up into the hills from camping area.  Mutation European Finch  Bull rushes.  White Butterfly.  Penguin tracks.  Having fun with Seagulls.  Rocks Baby penguin emerging out for a stretch, did you know they don’t poop in the burrow. I witnessed this.

Halls Point Day 2

Nice warm night and no wind. 🙂 All the campers from yesterday have moved on and we have one new camper, so nice and quiet. Did a walk to the corner store, made yoghurt and Bliss balls so been busy.

Blue Fairy Wren.  This family are taking the horses down to the beach for exercise so I tagged along and asked about photographing the kids, no problems.   Note the man has his dog on a leash, I’m really hot on this subject. Well done.  Camp spot.

Halls Point.

Left Forth by 10 am and went directly to Penguin, approximately 11 km. went to IGA and then out to Halls Point couple of clicks out to camp for 48 hours. Lovely spot for freedom camping with new toilet blocks just down by the Community hall. It is a Penguin Colony so its very special, got to see the penguins again here. Wish the locals would respect the fact that it is a protected area and keep their dogs on a leash.

The bay looking out from my backyard camping.  These rocks have quiet a story I’ve been told, ancient, scientist come from all over the world and test many rock area’s in Tasmania as its been found that there are many that are the same as in Canada, Nova Scotia.  Another view.  Mum and bub in their burrow. I used long lens so as not to disturb them.

Day 83

Saturday 23rd May

We are packing up and heading into St Helen’s to stay at the Hillcrest Van park, need some power and nice hot showers. Was a 5 minus frost this morning. I went down to get a sunrise and the mist on the ocean from the air temperature was real eerie, beautiful, but the sunrise was nothing to get excited about..Had a nice day and got set up in the park.

Day 65

Tuesday 5th May

We went for a quick drive, knew the weather was not going to be good today, but wanted to get to see some rocks we had been told about. Well the weather turned pretty fast, we got back in time to hang onto all the poles that we could, in the end the winds were so bad just blew up under the annex and the zip which was already a bit dicky  just broke and everything fell down on our heads. I have done a few movies on it, but only a couple of photos for this day. They recorded 90 km hour winds, worst in 22 years for Rocky Cape apparently.

Day 37

Tuesday 7th April

Haven’t done a lot over the last few days but went for a beach drive from Rocky Cape camping spot, out to the National Park, Boat Harbour Beach and to Sisters Beach, then went back to Port Latta to get permission to cut through someones yard to get down to some rocks we wanted to photograph. The winds were very cold today and wasn’t doing me a lot of good, so not to many pics today.

IMG_2968 IMG_2960  Boat Harbour Beach, very pretty place, the sand was so fine and white.IMG_2963  Freedom Camping here as well.IMG_2964  Looking back to the settlement.IMG_2971  No photo’s of Sisters Beach called into this shop but no where for camping if you have anything bigger than a small campervan, nice wee place though.IMG_2986  This area is amazing with a lot of history. This piece of land called Table Cape is an actual plug from a volcano.IMG_2987 IMG_2972TableCapeLightHouse  Light House at Table Cape.IMG_2974  View from the Light House grounds.IMG_2976TableCapeTulipFarm  Looking towards the Tulip Farm, they have all been picked, Ive been told it is a picture to be seen when the tulips are in bloom.IMG_2989  On our way back saw this art work on a rock face, don’t know what it means as there was no plaque.IMG_2990  Someone having a bit of fun with Maggie on the lamp post.IMG_2991  Another daggy letterbox.IMG_2993Latta  Back at Port Latta, the rock formations are just amazing, photo’s don’t really show it, IMG_2992  Straight off the camera, the colours are incredible.IMG_2994 This lot looked like concrete had been just dumped.

Day 32

Wednesday 1st April

Looks cloudy. Heading off to Penguin. Drove 38 km, lovely drive, nice little seaside town, and then we came on out to Sulphur Creek free camping. Got a real sheltered spot, ocean views. Got here early set up and had lunch. Did the washing, had a hot shower in the sun. Only two other campers here. Did a walk around and found heaps of penguin nests. Got tea early and went to sit out and see what time the penguins come a shore.  Well these ones come in later than in nz. We only had two trains go through. Got windy and cooled down. Rained during the night.
