We got away early as its a big day, heading for Casey’s Weir, about 10 km out of Benalla. Well when we got there decided no, not for us was disappointing but you just know. So we hit the road and looked up plan B which was James Camping Reserve. You are allowed to camp along the river in town at Benalla. Mozzies are bad.
Lovely wee creek and we did cool off in it, was very cold.

Woke to a sunny day, decided to go into Rutherglen and walk the town. Went to the info centre and chattered with the ladies, you can have a cuppa under the Pergola with the grape vines all over it, would be nice when the grapes are ripe. Here’s just a couple of images.
Woke to a lovely sunny day, river is so deep off the banks and so swift we cant even go in to cool off, checked the banks for entry but no luck. Thank goodness for trees and there’s plenty of them.

These birds have me stumped, what are they? They look like Crows, act like Apostles, but the red eye is different.
Woke to sun and wind, so things will dry nicely. Heading for Mulwala and Yerrawonga, they are towns on either side of the Murray which is the boarder. Beautiful towns, all to do with fishing. Did a bit of shopping then headed for Rutherglen. Another historical town, info center ladies were so great and helpful, had lots of laughs with them, they have water to fill RV’s, just make a donation of $2. Going out to Police Paddock camping. A great spot on a side branch of the Murray.

Headed for the Murray river to camp, we were on the NSW side and no camping spots, spoke to a chap and he suggested a couple of areas if we could fit in, on inspection they were not suitable so headed to the Collendine State Forest, well it was an interesting track, be very mucky if wet, we could see the skidding from others trying to drive in the wet. The skies opened up overnight and we thought Oh no! but lucky we went out a different road that we’d checked before night as the skies were not looking good.
Stayed at this Dam for a couple of nights, was nice but that’s all, a good rest stop as it was very quiet, not that far off the main road, not a lot to do, talk to the cows :).The water was very inviting but couldn’t swim as it had Blue Green algae. Here’s a couple of shots.
This is one of two shelters and there is one toilet block plus rubbish bins. no water.
Woke to a lovely sunny day, people were arriving to have their fun day, picnic and swim.

Had a great spot down at Sofala, lovely small town, my mother stayed here for some time panning and just loved it, said the hotel had a nice spirit living in it so I inquired, some said yes others didn’t know. Local swimming hole where we were, and got very busy during the day. I saw a Red Bellied Black snake, thought it was a shiny black stick, when it moved, then I knew.

Spent a week here with my son and his wife, good time in his pool when it was hot, thanks to you both. Garry and friend went for a ride.

We are on our way to Melbourne for our trip to Tassie, but taking 22 days to get there so some time with my son who didn’t make it for my 70th at the river.
This is our 1st night at Deep Water, caught up with a friend who is travelling some of the way with us.
